Lectures aim to provide insight into the breadth of plant cell wall research and, given the nature of a modular course, will provide a general overview of each topic, together with a series of recent papers illustrating facets of each subject area in more depth.
Specifically, lectures 1 and 2 will provide an overview of carbohydrate/saccharide chemistry and cell wall organization, and will provide a necessary background into some of the cell wall-related nomenclature. From Lecture 3 onwards, a paper will be presented by one student per lecture (these will be assigned in the second class), each presentation lasting for approximately 15-20 minutes including time for questions.
If possible, an evening session will be arranged for week 4, involving the remaining paper presentations. A list of appropriate papers and reviews will be provided for each subject area and additional detailed literature is available on request.
Course assessment will be based on the presentations and a take-home exam at the end of the module, to be completed and submitted by e-mail by Friday May 28th (5pm).
